We had a great first season as we built and programmed our first robot and developed our business plan. Our first competition, the Patriot Games, was held in New Berlin on January 21st. We were awarded the Arm, Inc. Control Award for our programming. This award is given to the team that demonstrates innovative thinking to solve game challenges such as autonomous operation, improving mechanical systems with intelligent control, or using sensors to achieve better results. We were also selected as the Inspire Award third place winner. The Inspire Award is given to the team that best embodies the ‘challenge’ of the FIRST Tech Challenge program and is the highest award. Turtle Tek considers it an incredible honor to be recognized as an Inspire Award winner at our very first tournament.
We were one of only four rookie teams to qualify for the Wisconsin State Championship, which we did at our very first qualifier.
We competed at our second qualifier, Frozen Frenzy, held in St. Francis on February 17th and 18th. We were awarded the 2nd place Think award for our engineering process. We were also selected as the Inspire Award 3rd place winner.
Turtle TEK won the Promote award for submitting a video on the chosen topic, “How did we learn about FIRST?” You can see this Promote video on our YouTube channel, Turtle TEK FTC Robotics.
We were thrilled to take home the 1st Place Promote Award and the 3rd place Compass Award at the State Championship. This year we’ve set big goals and look forward to expanding our skills and knowledge with the help of local mentors.
